Reduce risks and increase the reliability of your steam installations with our inspections.

Standard Fasel has experienced and qualified Level 3 inspectors for independent condition assessment, inspections in preparation for regulatory audits, damage inspections, inspections of repairs and inspections for the prediction of the remaining lifespan. Our inspectors review design drawings and conduct NDT research to get a picture of wear, tear and damage. The aim of the technical inspections and condition assessments is to reduce risks, increase the reliability and availability of boiler installations and determine the remaining lifespan.

Pipe support inspection

Why inspect pipe supports?

Pipes are the veins of your installation, interconnecting various production sections and their devices. Badly or non-functioning piping connections result in ineffective processes and are a possible cause for safety hazards. In respect of operational reliability and your responsibility for a safe working environment, it is therefore necessary to timely and periodically inspect pipes and pipe supports. Your company infrastructure will be considerably more reliable and the working environment will be a lot safer when both pipes and their pipe supports are guaranteed to function well.

What happens to your piping through time?

When piping is designed, engineers take sufficient slopes and certain transitions (in time) into account. The generated forces, moments and tensions will be partially absorbed by spring supports. When assembling new pipes and pipe supports, these design requirements will be met, so processes like water drainage will operate smoothly and flow velocities will be within limits.

Due to different circumstances like weather, environmental influences, (minor) accidents, material fatigue and the actual medium flowing through the pipes, the positions of the pipes will in time no longer correspond with the design situation. When these positions are measured and the displacements deviate outside boundaries such as defined in the design, the slope of the pipes has altered resulting in different loads, moments and tensions. This is detrimental to the mechanical and process reliability of your piping network, undermining your operations and reducing safety.

How can Standard Fasel help?

The above mentioned undesirable effects can be managed by timely executing a so-called ‘pipe support inspection’. Problematic situations are defined beforehand and recognized at an early stage. However, the regime of the inspections, the intensity and type of inspection is not identical for all forms of piping. We determine what to do based on:

  • The significance of the various piping systems in relation to your type of business and the possible impact on safety;
  • Aging effects and type of support for the various pipes;
  • Pressures, temperatures, medium transported through the pipes and material types.

Testing plan

Through measuring these aspects, we propose a different inspection regime fitting each type of pipe. Standard Fasel can illustrate this for your entire piping infrastructure through a strategic inspection and testing plan. Implementing this plan secures your own duty of care, significantly improves the reliability of your piping infrastructure and improves quality through a registration system for the movement of the pipes through time. Next to executing the inspection according to plan, we can also inspect the pipe routing if desired, without having an inspection plan. We inspect without scaffolding up to a height of 9 meters and up to 50 meters, we are using professional drones where possible.

Reports

We conclude each inspection with a report, which you will receive shortly after completing the inspection. Because of our extensive know-how and expertise (as well as data of a lot of pipe supports we have measured in the past), we advise adequately on various pipe support types and brands, including outdated ones. We will supply a repair proposal based on the report and will gladly execute the project if desired.
